four awesome things about today:

(1) practicum. full eight-hour day today! i am really have a great time. i adore the students, and they adore me. i’m teaching a lesson about thanksgiving on monday! gah i love it, i can’t wait to be a real teacher!

(2) pep rally. WAY better than last year’s disaster of a pep rally. plus i designed the t-shirts, so i got mad props for that : )

(3) pirates of penzance. saw this with lex. hilarious in so many ways! loved it.

(4) pizza. ’nuff said.

one not so awesome thing about today:

(1) new moon. not a fan. quite a fan of the hotness that is the male cast members, but that is it.

i’m at rochester city school #41 in a 2nd grade classroom. i was warned ahead of time by my cooperating teacher that the students are slightly out-of-control, and is basically the worst-behaved class she’s had since she started teaching twenty six years ago. so, yeah. since i started on monday, i have learned that she was not exaggerating in the least.

so i’m learning a lot of behavior management skills. but what i’m learning most is what to do, and more importantly, what not to do. my teacher is great at including me and has so much great advice to offer. i’m having a good time. and i really do like the students, they’re all amazing : )

and they realized i have pink hair this morning! they’re a bunch of little detectives, i tell you! they think it’s the coolest thing ever (as all children do), but i of course will not risk the chance of failing block IV by letting them see it.

… i guess. practicum starts next week (yes, i bought a pair of dress pants!), so it’s going to take awhile to get used to waking up at 5:30am so that i can leave prepared by 6:15am and be at school 41 by 7:30am. UGH.

in brighter and more exciting news, today was a very good day. it was beautiful outside so i was able to fit in a nice 13-mile ride before sundown. oh, and katie and i took first place with our presentation on the great depression, in which i had the opportunity to have fun and make a completely awesome (albeit slightly unnecessary) poster that included period newspapers that i made using word.

and i’m about to leave to see pirate radio with lex and carly, so tonight’s looking to be pretty good too.

oh hey friends, i forgot to mention it was hell week, didn’t i? well, it is hell week. happens once or twice a semester, and it’s no fun.

monday (i.e. today)
- presentation in CURR 317 on the great depression (we wore costumes—it was awesome, i was FDR)
- presentation in CURR 313 on percy jackson and the olympians: the lightning thief
- presentation in INTD 376 on using reasoning and proof in elementary math activities

tuesday
- registering for classes at 7:00am (and well all know my beef with registration)
- humanities exam

wednesday
- presentation in CURR 313 on the powerpoint i made

i mean, i love presentations. you just stand there and talk and talk and talk, and i like doing that. it’s the preparation that kills me. i’m fairly certain that much of the prep stuff that i do is completely not necessary, but you know me. yeah, it’s fun to make stuff, but it kind of puts a dent in other things you need to do (like studying for a hum test that’s 20% of your grade!). i need to learn to prioritize. bit late now.

and next week i start practicum! and yes, i only own one dress shirt that fits and no dress pants. might need to work on that.

if you didn’t know, lex and i started a band called “bad night for bugs.” we’ve only laid down a few tracks so far, but we’re having a damn good time being terrible at rapping. here is a rough draft (rough recording? i don’t know what rappers call it) of our self-titled song. please not that we obviously are not serious about this, so don’t judge. just laugh.

i hate when a shirt loses a button and you have to choose which button is least necessary in order to wear the shirt, so that you can use it where it is needed more.

this time it was the one near the collar.

sometimes i choose the pocket button, ’cause i’m never going to be like, “damn, i can’t button this shirt pocket shut, everything’s going to fall out of the top of it! i have so many important things in there!”

which brings up another good point, why the hell do they put pockets on the front of women’s shirts? there is no way in hell anyone would put something in a boob pocket. it’s just silliness. “hey square boob, what’s up? keeping your wallet in your shirt pocket again?”

i need to go to bed.

my halloween weekend was boss. we technically celebrated halloween on friday night, as that was the night of the party at karen, lauren, janine, and lindsey’s apartment. i drank so many dr peppers that i felt sick all night, which is kind of sad and kind of hilarious.

i must have downed six or seven of them in three hours. but seriously, i just really like playing all the card games. which reminds me, you know what else is sad? the fact that i, a sober person, could not even come close to winning any of the games we played. i cannot figure out how drunk people can manage to remember all the rules to some games (read: kings), and i can’t. hahahahaha.
